Spanish Indefinitive Article

The Spanish indefinite article is not all that difficult. When using the masculine form of this article with a masculine noun, you would use "un". The feminine form with any feminine nouns, would be "una". This article is used a lot less in Spanish than in our own English language. The equivalent of the Spanish "un" and "una" in English, are "a" and "an".

The useage of "un" and "una" is in the singular form. There is also a plural form of the indefinite article. The plural form is very simple. It consists of "unos" and "unas". Keep in mind that whatever your gender and/or number is, the article must agree with it. You do not want a plural noun or number and use a singular article. Does that make sense?

Spanish does however, not use the indefinite article all that often. There are a few cases where you do not want to be using the Spanish indefinite article. Don't let this bog you down though, as most of your learning experience in the language will probably use other parts of speech. Right then, are you ready to know when not to use the indefinite article?

You do not want to use it before a noun that is unmodified, which comes after the verb "to be", or better known as "ser". You do not want to use it when talking with the word "qué", which uses exclamations. You also do not want to use it after the verbs "to have" or "to buy". These are the forms tener and comprar. Now this is just a couple of the exceptions, but there a few more. Again do not become discouraged if you get something wrong. Everything is a learning process.
